Baptism
“Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: ‘Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.'” – Catechism, 1213.
Preparing for baptism is exciting! Since apostolic times, Christians have baptized Adults,
Children, and Babies (Acts 11:13-14, 16:15, 33).
Baptism of Children
In the Catholic Church, we refer to any child before the “age of reason” as an “infant” (6 years old or younger).
- Baptisms are on Sundays at 11:45 (after the 10:00 Mass)
Please contact Kim at kim@ourladyofthevalley.net with questions or to schedule a time to discuss our baptismal process which includes a baptismal information form, Godparent approval forms and preparations for both parents and godparents. Upon completion of the information form, your baptismal date may be scheduled. Paperwork and preparations must be completed no later than 2 weeks before the desired baptismal date.
Please prayerfully consider your choice of Godparents. Their role is to help you raise your child in the Catholic faith.
- Godparents must be 16 years or older and have received Catholic baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. If married, it must be in accord with Catholic law. They must also be registered in a parish and actively practicing their faith.
Baptism for Adults Millions of adults are baptized into the Catholic faith every year. We have an entire ministry to help answer their questions about becoming Catholic. It’s call RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults). This is a welcoming environment where you can meet with others who are interested in finding out more about the Catholic Church.
